If you have been following this series, than you already learned in parts one and two how to clean your disk, and how to rid your files of unwanted software. Today, I am going to show you how you can rid your computer of spyware and malicious software, with a free download from Microsoft.
The first thing most people think when their computer freezes is that their PC has been attacked by a virus. While, probably the most dramatic cause of computer shut down, a virus is a relatively rare cause of computer malfunction.
Nevertheless, it is one of the causes of computer crashes. However, assuming your anti virus is up to date and not reporting any viruses you need to scan your PC for other threats that may be lurking.
There is a free software available on the internet that may do a satisfactory job. Go to Microsoft.com and download the free Windows Defender program, and run it on your computer. The Windows Defender program will protect your computer against pop-ups, slow performance and security threats caused by spyware and other potentially unwanted software.
Go to Microsoft, put your mouse on “Downloads % Trials” on the navigator bar.
Select “Download Center” on the drop down menu, and click on “Downloads A-Z” at the top of the screen. Then scroll down the list until you find the program.
There is one little caveat. The program will only download if you are using Internet Explorer. If you’re using a different browser, you can still get the program, but you must first download Internet Explorer, or follow the instructions, to reconfigure your current browser to accept automatic updates from Microsoft.
Download and save the program to file, and run it. It will locate and remove any malicious software on your computer.
